Cottage: The Definition

There appears to be a considerable amount of confusion amongst the people in southern Ontario as to where they have been spending their weekends.  I hope this helps clear things up…

  • Camping: There is no permanent structure, no running water, no electricity.
  • Cabin: No running water, might have electricity. Structure is permanent
  • Cottage: Running water, electricity, permanent building
  • Summer Home: This is a cottage that has either a) a dishwasher or b) clothes washer/dryer

That’s right, if you have a machine to do your laundry or your dishes in your ‘cottage’ you are actually at your summer home.  You are not roughing it in any way, shape or form.   I am also probably jealous of you. Unless you ride a jetski a lot.  In which case you are probably a dick.

Special Pat Smith Addendum:

If your cottage has a flat screen HDTV and the exterior has accent lighting it is for serious, really, totally not at all a cottage.
